Welcome
Whaley Bridge Uniting Church is a Local Ecumenical Partnership (LEP) and member of the High Peak Partnership of Churches
Rooted in Whaley Bridge
The church stands in the centre of Whaley Bridge. The original part of the building was opened in 1821 to house the Sunday School and Wesleyan Methodist Society which had previously met in the old corn mill on Bridge Street. In 1865 a large chapel with gallery was added and for many years during the 19th and early 20th centuries the church building was also used as a day school. The building was restructured in 1986 and further updated and developed in 2011 to meet modern needs.
The Uniting Church was formed from the joining together of the Whaley Bridge Methodist and United Reformed churches in 1983. The word Uniting being deliberately chosen to represent on-going growth of shared Christian faith and outreach into the community. In 2004 we were joined by a small group of Baptist Church members and the congregation now contains people from a variety of church denominations – and none. This diversity is very much cherished.
